Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

endoscopic sinus surgeryFunctional endoscopic sinus surgery, also known as FESS or the FESS procedure, is a type of sinus surgery that corrects structural abnormalities within the nose that can lead to chronic sinusitis and related breathing problems.

It is performed using a small camera called an endoscope that enables the ENT doctor to complete the FESS surgery using detailed image guidance. In most cases, the surgical procedure is performed entirely through the nostrils, leaving no external scars. There is little swelling and only mild discomfort.

The advantage of the procedure is that the surgery is less extensive, there is often less removal of normal tissues, and can frequently be performed on an outpatient basis.
